Amazon Ship time to customer used to be 2 days. remember?

Remember when FBA Prime items ordered by a customer were supposed to arrive in 2 days? As a customer living in a rural area, I even had items arriving in one day. Now when I search for items I have purchased in the past, NONE of them are available in 2 days, and most of them are one week out(I am talking about items that are IN STOCK). I just ordered a supplement on Oct 22 that Amazon showed in stock, and as of Oct 29th, it is still preparing for shipment. What happened? Customers can not be happy with this since they are paying an annual fee for quick shipping. I know I’m not.

What was the estimated delivery date when you purchased? The last couple years Amazon has listed as available items that are still in FC transfers or otherwise not yet available to sell but has been putting extended delivery estimates. I have seen prime items with over 2 months of estimated dates. Yes I know people expect 2 day shipping with prime so I don’t know why Amazon would even show these items as available but it is what it is

Almost everything I purchase, and I purchase a lot, arrive the next day or the following day depending on what time I place the order. I live in Los Angeles, so it certainly may be different for rural areas.

I think the whole “2 Day” promise went out the window when COVID hit (which is understandable). Amazon apparently never bothered to go back to it, possibly hoping that most people wouldn’t notice or wouldn’t care.

Everything I’ve ordered in the last month was delivered same day, next morning, or inside of two days.

Some morning, on my way to work, I may see 10-12 “smile” vans heading into my area.

You can reach about 80% of the population with a small footprint. I just saw the FedEx Sunday delivery map below in the last few days. It was an easy example.

What happened? Labor happened. AMZ couldn’t sustain that promise anyway. They have a big labor turnover of workers, workers walking out of distribution centers, striking. AMZ is even trying to compete with UPS with delivery cargo ships, but we haven’t heard anything about that have we?

Amazon killed fbm prime a couple of years ago and since then everything seems to take longer to get. As a former fbm prime seller, our shipping times have slowed drastically as a result, because we have no incentive to ship faster than the cheapest way now. More than half of our sales used to be fbm prime.

I think how Amazon displays the shipping speed of items you want to purchase depends on a handful of factors. Like if the items are located in a fulfillment center close to you. I’m in the Dallas Fort Worth metro area and 5 min away from FTW1… Most items I order are same day or next day delivery if it’s in that center.

I ordered a pair of shoes for my kid on Oct. 20… it said it’ll be delivered by Oct 26. Absurd, considering the (now defunct) 2 day- delivery promise for prime members, but Ok, no rush as I need them for Halloween.

On Oct 26, around 9pm, I got a message, telling me that the shoes will now arrive around Nov.10. I, obviously, cancelled the order. Found another similar pair (they’re for a costume) and placed the order, it said they’ll arrive today (Oct. 29).

Today, again around 9pm, got another message telling me the package is delayed, and that it’ll arrive between tomorrow (30) and Nov 1st. When I checked the USPS tracking, USPS is still waiting for the item!!. I can’t but think what could possibly happen to my seller account if I pull this trick on my customers (sorry, Amazon’s customers that buy my items)
