Branded Product Listed as “Generic” – No Resolution from Support

Hi everyone,

Hoping someone from Amazon can take a serious look at this issue, because I’ve been going in circles with support and getting nowhere.

A seller has created a listing for a branded product but listed the brand as “Generic.” This violates Amazon’s Generic Product Policy, which clearly states that branded products must not be listed as generic.

The problem is, because the listing is marked as “Generic,” no other sellers (including authorized or legitimate ones) can list their offers against it. Support keeps telling me I can’t request changes because I don’t have an offer — but I can’t create an offer because the listing is set to “Generic.”

I’ve submitted multiple reports through Brand Registry (as suggested), flagged it as detail page abuse, even explained it step by step. Every time I get a reply saying they can’t change the brand, or they treat it like I’m just trying to update an existing listing — which I’m not. This is a policy enforcement issue, not a listing edit.

This kind of abuse not only blocks competition, it also misleads customers, who are shown a “Generic” label when it’s clearly a real branded product.

Has anyone successfully resolved something like this? Or is there a way to get this escalated properly to the policy team?

In general the best way to report this type of violation is to use the Report a Violation tool. Additionally, even if the issue is that this listing is in error the Brand associated with an ASIN (Generic or otherwise) should not be changed per Amazon policy. If you want to list this product you will need to create a new ASIN with the correct Brand. Thank you for your understanding.

Good luck. I’m having the same issue and Amazon support is completely brain dead when it comes to this. Been going back and forth with them for over a week and they never understand, and even go as far as to suggest that I should just create my own generic listing as well. Wild.

It’s a gated brand and the guy listed it as generic to bypass the brand gate. They insist that he did nothing wrong when there are plenty of identical devices (different model) that all have the proper brand name associated with them. No matter how many times I mention this, they insist that I am wrong. One dude has a monopoly on my item that I have thousands of and they don’t care one bit.
