Contributing to Your Own Demise?

As Amazon has evolved over the years, and our contempt as sellers deepens, I'm curious how many folks have done their best to avoid buying things on Amazon. With all of the new and increasing fees, a lot of folks have given advice to start your own Shopify website or find another platform to sell. But when making your own purchases, how many of you are searching out alterative places to buy? Particularly, from a US seller website? If we continue to let Amazon have the marketplace monopoly with both sides of our financial lives, money coming in AND going out, then we are part of the problem and contributing to our own demise. The point is, shop how you would want your customers to shop if you were no longer selling on Amazon. Most of us don't have the right product or following to start our own websites, but we can support those that do.

I am working on it. Over the last year or two, I search on google before I search on Amazon and see who else has what I need and at what price/speed. I frequently purchase on Ebay, Walmart, Chewy and some other places as more and more offer about the same service (as a buyer) as Amazon. But I still shop here too, too much.

And I have to add....buying on Amazon has become a chore. Between fraudulent sellers, listings and reviews, you can't freaking find what you are looking for, because Amazon doesn't care what I search for. Amazon search is easily the worst anywhere....

another add....it wont add to "My Own Demise". I turned my back on this place many months ago. I couldn't pay any bills with sales around here. Lost 2/3rds of my listings here over the last 4 years. Deleted another 125 just yesterday

The Amazon catalog is in shambles. Searching for an item is so involved, I sometimes give up. Other times I find the item somewhere else and feed the UPC to Amazon to check prices and reviews. The reviews are also sketchy. You might be looking at a torque wrench with great reviews and after some digging, find out they are reviews for a Hello Kitty item and the listing was hijacked. As a customer, I find amazon hard to use.

Amazon is too filled with SFGFWSFS branded products I have no idea about the quality or safety of them. Also, its difficult to discern the value of the item. If AEGFASDF product is $90 and GRRWEGS is $70, are they the same item, or is the AEGFASDF one better? I'm also the kind of person if I find something and like it, I will find another one in the future.

I also buy a lot of replacement parts for things I sell, and Amazon doesn't want non-UPC branded items on here. Plus, QTY discounts are rare. Lets say I need 25 replacement ear foams for some headsets I'm selling. I can find a 25 pack on ebay for $20, but can only get 2 packs on Amazon for $8.

In a typical year, I buy 4-8 things on Amazon, around 100 on ebay, and maybe 10 on other e-commerce sites. Online *used* to be the place to find things I couldn't locally, or significantly cheaper than local. Now its filled with people buying a broom for $20 online to have it shipped to their door, when you can get the same broom at Family Dollar for $8 on the way home from work.

To tell you the truth I buy where is more convenient, I do not care if it is Amazon or another website.

However, starting a few years ago I started gradually not to find what I am searching for on Amazon, and at the correct price.

If I search for a battery for a device, I would like an original one, tested, UL-certified, etc. At a simple search, Amazon lists 10 pages at least of sponsored knockoffs from China first, which is not what I am searching for.

I believe they are going in the wrong direction.

I buy allover the place now as delivery services across the board rival Amazon. Instant cart where I live will deliver from dozens of places all which used to be Amazon purchases.

Better prices, better quality than Amazon. We all know as sellers we must add in fees, shipping and return costs. Amazon caused this Project Nessie now its coming back and biting the company.

Now as a consumer all this cheap stuff on Amazon, may as well buy on Temu and now I buy on Temu where its actually fairly priced for cheap. that I can live with.

Amazon which used to have quality I have to return more than keep the quality is so bad. I am talking home stuff and tools. I look elsewhere now so do many people - the reliance on Amazon is not so important now.

Amazon search is now RELEVANT which is geared to what they want you to buy which is the most expensive. You actually have to to go to the corner and search low to high. They have rigged this as well for the consumer because people caught on. Shopping has become a headache here so be it - make it difficult bye bye.
