Melted Chocolate Items

I've been selling chocolate covered macadamia nuts just fine for awhile... However, it seems all of a sudden I am getting requests for refunds for items being "melted" in the mail. I think the sudden requests are coming from warm weathers heating up for the Summer season. Some are blaming it on the postal service for leaving it on the sun on their front porch. I am selling 8oz Bags of Chocolate Covered Macadamia nuts. How should I handle these requests? Refunds for customers are becoming very costly as some are requesting $50+ refunds... I don't think its fair that I have to keep refunding everyone and suffering big losses.

I live in very hot country (summer time anyway) and know better than to order something like that this time of year.

Sadly, all too many don't bother to take this preventive measure or think of it until after they receive yuck in the mail..

Since it is highly unlikely that the product will absorb the extra cost of keep-cool packaging -- most products cannot absorb that -- just don't sell those during certain months of the year (eliminate June, July, August at a minimum)

Even if the carrier handed it to the customer, anyone toward the end of the route is looking at a package that has been in an un-airconditioned truck for the better part of the day; I'm up north, and we've had one day in the last week that didn't go over 90. Without cool-packs, there's no way you should expect your chocolate to get to many parts of the country without melting.

I would just stop selling it until the heat waves end, if not until after Labor Day or so.

You could add ice packs to your packages and/or ship faster.
