I updated my ASIN Image days AFTER a Buyer ordered, now the buyer claims he received the wrong item?
I sold a computer listed with a black/blue case.. since this was my last of that case I updated my listing image after (I changed the case in the listing to an entirely different looking one)
Buyer received item with the correct black/blue case that they ordered... but I receive a nasty email saying they did not receive the correct style of case.. clearly they are seeing the new image and are feigning confusion.
These cases look entirely different and it is highly unlikely the buyer entirely forgot what they bought originally.
It is even more suspect that the buyer also states there is severe damage to the item and that none of the specifications are correct.. both entirely lies. Accusing me of putting in the wrong parts and reporting unrepairable damage.. I have NEVER sent the wrong part, in fact, they state not one, but TWO of the parts are wrong... further they state it does not match the "ports" described.. another lie.
I am fearful of this buyer, I hope that Amazon can see my record of this situation here.
I have told them to return for a full refund, but they are irrational clearly.. being unable to remember what they ordered.. then lying about the condition/specifications.
I tried numerous times to edit the listing back to the original image, but of course every time has failed (this is not uncommon with amazon image edits)
Not sure what else I can do, can Amazon at least see that I sent the original case (can they see the image at the time the order was placed?)

Altering a listing or Product Detail Page on Amazon can cause an issues, including if a buyer hits the Re-Order Button.
It is normally recommended to create a new listing when changing the details of an item. If you sold a black/blue item and the buyer decides to purchase another in the future, they may not receive the same item if the listing was altered to a red/green item.
Changing the image or listing details can cause buyer confusion especially on reorders.

Amazon will not care what you said the product/image was. If they try to open an A-Z claim, have all your ducks in a row to prove them wrong.

On your place I would not insist too much. By changing fundamentally an EXISTING listing you act against the TOS. Normally, any change on a listing requires the creation of a NEW listing. For not waking up the bots I just would satisfy this buyer and hope that the AI doesn't notice that change in one year.

All I can offer is that Amazon CAN see when you changed something in your account.
That is fact.
But, as others have suggested, it would have been best to create an entirely new listing when the case changed. But, since it seems you're dealing with someone intent on scamming you, it may not matter.
But you need your customer's cooperation for this to work. Make sure you are clear, in your correspondence with him, that you are offering a full refund for a return. That will help your case if needed.
Just because there's no claim now, doesn't mean there won't be one at some point.
