Changing my SKU by Creating a Child of a Parent

My first posting here. (First off, my business isn't called Fence Gates. It is Miracle Woodworks LLC. Not sure how to change that for here) My question involves the fact that I am an FBM merchant selling on Amazon, Etsy, and Shopify. My inventory was just moved to a 3PL provider in Kansas City. They use an inventory management system called "Extensiv" (their spelling) and it requires the same SKU from all three platforms. Etsy and Shopify were simple to change but Amazon is very difficult without starting all over again. I have been told though about creating a "Child" that is exactly the same as the "Parent" and you could put your own SKU into that. I've looked at articles on this and it has me terrified. I'm worried there will be two listings and how do I hide the parent so people don't buy that? Any thoughts?

Whoever told you that "creating a child ASIN that is exactly the same as the Parent ASIN allows you to put your own SKU into that" is so wrong that its very comical.

Your 3PL requirement is very common and you should change your SKU.

To do so, follow these steps

1. Write down the ASIN of this product that you are trying to change the SKU for.

2. Click the menu on the top left and navigate to Inventory -> Manage Inventory

3. On the top right of the page click on "Add a product"

4. There is a white search bar where you can search for your item. This is where you put the ASIN from step 1. Click on Search.

5. You should see your item...along with a picture of it and the title. On the right of this item you should see something that says "Select a condition". Click on that and select "New". (I am assuming your product is in new condition.)

6. Click on the blue button below that says "Sell This Product".

7. Scroll down a bit and the first section you should see is called "Contribution SKU". This should be the first thing you input. Type the SKU that matches with your 3PL.

8. Continue typing in other information such as your price and quantity (The 3PL software should update your quantity once you create this offer and the SKU matches with the 3PL software). Make sure you identify that your offer is merchant fulfilled.

9. Click on the "Save and Finish" button at the bottom.

10. Go do something else for 30 minutes while Seller Central uploads your new offer.

11. Return to Inventory -> Manage Inventory. At the top area of the page there should be a search bar where you can type the ASIN from step 1.

12. You should now see your item appear twice. One with the correct SKU that matches your 3PL and one with the old SKU that does not match your 3PL. Locate the item with the old SKU and look to the right of it where there is an arrow pointing down (right next to where it says edit). Click on the arrow pointing downward.

13. A drop down menu should appear and one of the options says "Delete product and listing".

14. Go do something else for 15 minutes.

15. Once you return to Seller Central, your old offer should now be deleted and you have a new offer for the same item with the correct SKU. Its important to note, none of these actions will ever delete anything on your detail page...even if you delete all offers. The detail page remains on the Amazon catalog.
