USPS Return adjustments

Mods,

So many of us are dealing with these shipping adjustments well after a return was sent back. We open claims to get reimbursement for the additional amount charged but are getting copy and paste answers which aren't even correct. We have small packages such as 8X7 bubble mailers which are under 6 ounces but seller support keeps stating the higher of the actual weight or dimensional weight can be used. In all of our cases the actual weight and dimensions audited in at the original amount anyway. However, a box has to be over a cubic foot for the dimensional weight to come into play according to the USPS site.

The dimensional weight price may be applied to parcels of the mail classes listed below, but use and calculation of that price differs based on those mail classes.

Dimensional Weight Price for Low-Density Parcels to Zones 1-9 - For the domestic mail classes listed below, postage for parcels addressed for delivery to Zones 1-9 and that exceed one cubic foot (1,728 cubic inches) is based on either the actual weight or the calculated dimensional weight, whichever is greater. The dimensional weight price may apply to:

Priority Mail Express® parcels

Priority Mail® parcels

USPS Ground Advantage™ (excludes Limited Overland Routes parcels) parcels

Parcel Select® parcels (Parcel Select no longer has price by Zone, but can still be charged by the dimensional weight)

Note: If the dimensional weight exceeds 70 pounds, postage is the 70-pound price"

I am not sure if this js part of the problem since support cases keep getting closed telling me to go the USPS site and read about actual weight and dimensional weight. I forward them the guidelines, they don't read it and copy and paste the same answer and close the case.

I took a look at the details, and it appears that the adjustment may have been for the return shipment.

Carrier-audited information is not available for USPS return shipments. Even though Seller Central displays matching customer-entered and carrier-audited dimensions and weight, this may not be the case and USPS may have based the adjustment on updated dimensions/weight for the return shipment.

I submitted a request for additional details on that return shipment and the USPS carrier adjustment.
