Request for Help – FBA Capacity Limit Ignored In-Transit Shipment (Case ID: 18038325561)

Hi everyone,

I'm hoping to get advice from anyone who has faced a similar issue with FBA capacity limits and in-transit shipments.

My shipment was created on April 30 via Amazon Global Logistics and is currently in ocean transit. It's scheduled to arrive at the port on July 13 and at the fulfillment center on July 25. It’s fully labeled, destination-assigned, and cannot be rerouted or delayed.

However, Amazon did not include this shipment in my July capacity limit — even though their policy states that in-transit (open) shipments are considered when capacity limits are finalized. My July capacity is 184 cubic feet, while this shipment requires 345 cubic feet to be fully received.

Because Capacity Manager does not accept July requests anymore, I submitted a manual exemption request through Seller Support — but they’ve repeatedly denied it and continue to respond with general replies, as if the shipment is still being prepared or hasn’t been shipped.

Case ID: 18038325561Has anyone dealt with this type of issue before? Were you able to get Amazon to manually adjust your capacity or escalate it to the appropriate team for review? I'd really appreciate any insight or advice — especially from those who have dealt with capacity issues after their shipment was already in transit.

Thank you so much in advance!

Kindly help

Hi @Seller_tSdc9f2s4SU8o, since your shipment is already in transit, it will be received at the Fulfillment Center as normal. You might receive a warning. In this case, your existing inventory plus shipments on the way exceeds your capacity limit, so you will be blocked from creating new shipments to Amazon. You would also be blocked if you were below your capacity limit, but the quantity of units that you were attempting to ship would exceed your limit.

Capacity limits are typically announced during the fourth week of the month. You can view updates via the Capacity Manager and will also receive an email notification. We’ll confirm your limit for the upcoming month, reaffirm or adjust your estimated limit for the following month, and estimate your limit for the month after that.

For example, on April 24, capacity limits for May 1 through 31 are confirmed, limits for June 1 through 30 are adjusted or reaffirmed, and limits for July 1 through 31 are estimated. Estimated capacity limits might increase if your sales and inventory performance exceed our forecast, or decrease if there’s greater demand for capacity than expected. Any changes to estimated capacity limits will be reported in the Capacity Monitor. My guess it that since it took so long for your shipment to arrive, the estimates were incorrect for July.

Your capacity limit is influenced by your IPI score, as well as other factors such as historical sales volume, seasonal and peak selling periods for your products, forecasts for your ASINs, the new selection that you carry, deals that you’ve scheduled, fulfillment center capacity, and shipment lead time.
