Transfer/sale of business account

Has anyone sold their business? Amazon's default help says it is not transferable and buyers must set up their own account, but then I see other people say they were able to transfer a businesses account. How is it done? Part of the value of the business is the amazon sales - we sell on our own platform, locally etc, but amazon is still important. If you can't sell that part of your business than what is the point???

It will depend on how the business is set up.

Think of two situations -- you are a small business using either your SS# or an EIN and are an LLC versus a company like Home Depot with a Board of Directors, and shareholders.

If YOU sell your business there is no continuity for Amazon purposes. There will have to be new bank accounts, new contact people, and virtually everything changes.

If Home Depot gets bought out it is going to continue as Home Depot with the same contacts, bank accounts and so on but changes to a different Board of Directors that has NO EFFECT for Amazon.

How many of the 'businesses' on Amazon have been set up properly (for Amazon purposes) is an open question but given the fact that MOST sellers on here do relatively small numbers for sales I would have to guess that at least 85% are NOT transferable.

Only the most sophisticated sellers that actually anticipated the future properly did it right (according to Amazon).

Hello @Seller_Wj5Go6ey4FNej,

Thank you for reaching out. Seller accounts generally are not transferable. Seller accounts provide access to the tools and resources that sellers use to list their products and manage their orders. Seller accounts also include account activity history and buyer feedback. Every seller on Amazon must have a seller account and an agreement with Amazon that establishes the terms under which the seller lists and sells their products.

If the ownership of a business changes for any reason, the new owner must establish a new seller account.

If the ownership of a business is not changed, but the individuals responsible for managing the seller account have changed, you can add users to the account. For more information, see Set User Permissions.

Please let me know if you have any additional questions.

Cheers,

Micah
