Problems with "Controlled By Brand Owner"
I sell a lot of movies on Amazon. Occasionally, I come across a DVD that I’m selling that doesn’t have a great sales rank.
When this happens, I suggest changes to the listing through Seller Central. Here’s one example.
ASIN B004IK30LY belongs to a DVD of the 1954 movie “Sabrina”, starring Audrey Hepburn, Humphrey Bogart, and William Holden. The title of this ASIN is “Audrey - Sabrina”.
“Audrey - Sabrina” is not an accurate title for this ASIN, as it is not quite the name of the movie. Through Seller Central, I suggested the following title “Sabrina (1954) [DVD]”.
The title “Sabrina (1954) [DVD]” tells you that the product in question is a DVD, and it’s the 1954 movie, not the 1995 film. Audrey Hepburn is in the movie, but her first name is not in the actual title.
When I suggested this change to Seller Central, I received an automated message stating that the ASIN is controlled by the brand owner, and that the suggestion has to be approved by the brand owner before being changed. Seeing as the brand owner is probably Paramount Pictures (or Viacom), I imagine it will take a long time before someone at such a large film studio will even register such a suggestion let alone improve it.
This is very frustrating. I’m suggesting a change to a listing that is intended to increase traffic and therefore sales, and it describes the ASIN’s product more accurately.
Getting the approval of the brand owner is like a brick wall. How do I get past it? Suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Good afternoon The_Intellectual_Bea,
I’m just seeing this post, and would be happy to provide you additional information as your question went unanswered.
Updating product detail pages when you are not the brand owner does require additional proof to support the suggested changes. Acceptable proofs for attribute update requests are:
- Manufacturer’s or publisher’s (for books) website URL clearly showing the suggested changes, along with a visible product identifier (UPC, EAN, ISBN, etc.), if available.
- High-resolution product pictures, clearly showing the suggested changes, along with a visible product identifier (UPC, EAN, ISBN, etc.).
- A high-resolution photo of the item in its original packaging showing the product identifier (UPC, EAN, ISBN, etc.) code and the attribute or attributes that you need to change
Any requests without valid proof supporting the changes will not be accepted.
Of course, it’s not always possible to obtain proof in the ways outlined above. In those instances, the best course of action is to reach out the brand owner directly to recommend updates.

It’s a problem I would just move on not waste your time sell it elsewhere… might not get as much bang for your buck, maybe you can recover your cost of goods…
You can’t match the detail page exactly if you do change it what happens to the rest of the sellers offers…
That’s probably why you don’t have page control…
Amazon used to post updates & email them to you when they were changes in detail pages , they don’t do that anymore…
