Manage Inventory Health overview

Manage Inventory Health gives you the ability to manage your excess and aged inventory in one place. The page offers a variety of metrics and recommended actions that help you make informed decisions and increase profit, such as disposing of excess and aged inventory. In this way, you can optimize your inventory within your storage or restock limits, reduce costs, and improve your Inventory Performance Index (IPI) score.

The recommendations on the Manage Inventory Health page are intended to provide you with general and indicative information to help manage your inventory levels. These recommendations are provided as a guide only and should not be used as a substitute for your own judgement regarding demand for your products. Multiple factors may influence actual demand for products, including price fluctuations, consumer demand shifts, and changes in competing offers for those products. The Manage Inventory Health page shows you how long your units have been in our fulfillment centers. The page also displays the following information:

  • The number of units in each age group
  • The number of units that would be subject to long-term storage fees on the next charge date (if applicable)
  • The estimated long-term storage fee amount (if applicable) for those units, assuming that these record no inventory movement by the charge date

Manage Inventory Health also shows your recent sales performance for each SKU and any excess inventory. You are provided with suggestions for increasing traffic or sales conversion, which can in turn improve sell-through for your aged and excess inventory.

Page features

The Manage Inventory Health page offers many features to help you make informed decisions about your excess and aged inventory.

  • Customized metrics: Click Table preferences at the top right of the page and customize your metrics across sales, fees, pricing, excess and aged inventory, and unit status (Working, Shipped, or Receiving).
  • Information about the metrics: Hover over the "i" icon for each metric in the Manage Inventory Health page to learn the metric definition and other important information.
  • Sortable data: Metrics that can be sorted appear in bold in the Manage Inventory Health page columns. Click the metric name to sort the column in ascending or descending order.
  • Filter selection: Choose among multiple filters to group products with similar inventory characteristics, including inventory age, storage type, and product condition. These filters can make it easier to assess recommendations and take the action that you see as the most appropriate for your products.
  • Up to 250 ASINs view per page: Spend less time clicking through multiple pages to review your inventory health by changing your default product results per page. Use the drop-down menu at the bottom of the page to choose the number of products that you want to see.
  • Targeted search: Use the Search feature at the top of the page to find items that have similar product characteristics, for example, "blue" or "12-pack." You can then sort, filter, and act on these items.

Frequently asked questions

What units are shown in the Inventory age column?

The Inventory age column includes available plus reserved units minus units that are pending removal . These are shown for any product that has at least one unit available for sale through Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA).

How is inventory age determined?

Inventory age is based on the number of days that a unit has been in the fulfillment center. FBA accounts for inventory on a first-in, first-out basis across our entire fulfillment network. This means that each sale or removal will be applied to the inventory that has been in our fulfillment network the longest, regardless of which physical unit was actually shipped or removed.

What is the estimated long-term storage fee?

If the long-term storage fee is applicable to the Amazon store in which you sell, inventory that has been in a fulfillment center for more than 365 days is subject to the fee. The fee is assessed on the 15th of each month. Inventory age shows the number of units that would be subject to the long-term storage fee and the estimated fee amount as of the next charge date, assuming that these record no further inventory movement by the charge date. What is included in the total inbound quantity?

For an FBA listing, total inbound quantity refers to fulfillable units that are available or on their way to the fulfillment center. It does not include unfulfillable units (such as damaged units) or units reserved for a customer order. For a seller-fulfilled listing, the total quantity is the same as the available quantity, as specified by the seller.

How should I use this page to manage my potentially excess and aged inventory?

Our goal is to allow you to easily identify inventory which is potentially in excess or aged, and to provide recommended actions aimed at helping you better manage the return on your inventory investment. In some cases, we may suggest to remove units from your inventory. Several factors influence our recommended actions, which should always be treated as a guide only, particularly as past performance is not a guarantee of future results.

You can also view the number of units that have been sold for a product over the past 7, 30, 60, and 90 days by hovering over details in the Sales summary for each product. This will allow you to gauge sales relative to your total inventory. If you want to remove an item from your inventory, select Create removal order from the drop-down menu in the Actions column.

Why does Amazon recommend actions to take on my inventory?

Good inventory management can be challenging, because the right amount of stock varies based on future demand and the cost of carrying too much or too little inventory. The recommended actions are intended to provide you with information to help you make informed decisions regarding the correct amount of inventory without running out of stock or having excess inventory. These recommendations are provided as a guide only and do not guarantee future results.

How does Amazon generate recommended actions?

Inventory management recommended actions and related estimates (for example, estimated days of supply) are based on a variety of factors, including your sales history, the season, and the product’s historical selling prices and sales volume.
