Food & Beverage

This page provides general information about food and beverages for human consumption.

"Food" is defined as any edible product or ingredient intended to supply a nutritional or recreational demand, also covering beverages in general and dietary supplements.

See below the requirements to list Food products at Amazon.

Product Detail page

The following information is mandatory:

  • Complete ingredients list
  • Allergen information, such as displayed in product label ("ALLERGENS: may contain...");
  • All information above must be available in Portuguese

Product conditions

Products cannot be:

  • Expired
  • Without expiration date information (unless it's not required by specific regulation)
  • Without original seal or seal from manufacturer
  • Broken, cracked, dented, bulged or open
  • Dirty or with strange odors
  • With label erased, stained or missing
  • Pest, weevils or insect infestation
  • Prohibited by ANVISA
  • Used
  • From batches that have been recalled
  • Without registration with the competent authority, when applicable

Product packaging

  • Food products must not be packaged with chemicals and hazardous materials. These products must be packaged in appropriate boxes to avoid contamination and migration of odors and flavors. Examples of chemicals and hazardous materials: batteries, insecticide, repellent, lubricants, nail polish, nail polish remover, perfume, general removers, deodorant and cleaning materials such as detergents, disinfectants, multi-purpose cleaners, soap, alcohol, furniture polish, dishwasher tablets, fabric softener, washing powder/liquid, room odorizes and bleach.
  • Liquid and powder products with simple flexible plastic packaging must be packaged in additional plastic bags or other rigid packaging for better protection and barrier against moisture, external contamination and migration of foreign odours and tastes. Products in "pouch" packages, where package material and structure are enough to protect the food content, do not require additional protection.
  • Food and beverages in glass packaging must be prepacked in proper packing material.
Note: Use a box that is slightly larger than the full volume so as not to cause breakage or excessive pressure on the products. If you choose a much larger box, make sure that the products are not completely loose and are not damaged during transport. To avoid loose items inside the box, use a cushioning material such as wrinkled paper, plastic or any other soft material to fill the void.

Transportation

Only use clean vehicles in good condition. These must be free of foreign objects, odors, pests and substances that can contaminate the products. Remember: food products must be delivered with their original quality and integrity, as purchased by customers.

General requirements

Any product that is registered or sold on Amazon must comply with all federal, state, and local laws and Amazon policies applicable to those products and product listings. Sellers must evaluate and understand the requirements listed below before shipping products:

  1. Provide only products whose safety and compliance with health legislation can be attested.
  2. Products must comply with the relevant legislation for the type of food and/or drink sold.
  3. Where applicable, products must be registered with the National Health Surveillance Agency (ANVISA) or Ministry of Agriculture or their regional representatives.
  4. Product testing reports, when requested, must come from laboratories accredited at ANVISA (Reblas), Ministry of Agriculture or Inmetro (NBR ISO / IEC 17025). Imported products can be tested abroad if the laboratory has ISO17025 accreditation or the analysis is conducted in an official laboratory of the country's health/agriculture department. Amazon only accepts product testing reports obtained from a regular production batch. Testing performed with products under development or product versions in stages prior to production start cannot be not accepted.
  5. Suppliers and vendors should direct all questions about laws, rules, standards and prohibitions applicable to their products to their own legal advisors and testing laboratories.
  6. Amazon reserves the right to request additional information and compliance documents anytime regarding the products.

Amazon shall be immediately notified if there's any doubt regarding product quality or safety and offers must be removed. Seller/supplier is responsible for product withdraw and disposal.

Note: Amazon's Food Safety Department may request a review of certificates, records and testing reports of the products sold on Amazon. Submitting satisfactory documentation and results in one or more reviews does not guarantee that a product will be listed on Amazon.
